The H gets invited to a party at their place where the h is dressed and made up like a hooker and he takes his turn at name calling and slut shaming, but that doesn’t stop him from mauling her up a bit. It turns out she lives with her young brother at the neighboring estate belonging to her uncle, a well liked and respected man whom everyone pities as the niece is hell bent on ruining his name as well. ![]() The first part is when the H lands up in Jamaica to check out some strange happenings on the family estate and the moment he lands he hears about the h, referred to as the whore of Jamaica! Apparently, at just nineteen years of age, she’s an experienced seducer of men and has at least three lovers at the moment. The book can be divided into three parts, more or less. ![]() The h’s hellion-ness is over-alluded as the h is mostly vulnerable and on the wrong side of all power equations, and is sorely abused by various men throughout the book. The story is as per the blurb but there’s no hellion bride! Not really. Lots of triggers and nasty stuff but never a boring moment. ![]() This book tells a controversial story and doesn’t seem to care if it offends. ![]() ![]() And the very same jetpack that led to his murder. Hollow Fires is the latest YA novel from New York Times Bestselling author Samira Ahmed. Hollow Fires is a powerful book…and it is going to have people talking! I would like to thank my friends at NOVL for sending this my way for review! I would also like to offer a warning about the content below…it does discuss murder of a child, racism, and Islamophobia. ![]() One thing I CAN put into words is that this book is powerful. I think part of it is because while it is a work of fiction, there is so much real in this book. ![]() That is most definitely NOT the case with Hollow Fires. I can usually gather my thoughts and get them to form (mostly) coherent words without too much trouble. I don’t often struggle to put my thoughts on a book into words. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Trevor on the other hand was shy and a little insecure closeted marine officer. I just love these two! They’re like peanut butter and jelly! Reed is a self-assured, self made man who always gets what he wants and he wanted Trevor from the moment he met him at his brother’s wedding rehearsal. ![]() Seriously, this story’s just way too adorable and just way too sweet! We are introduced this time to Reed Kensington, a power-attorney cum international playboy who’s looking to settle for good and the very shy and very sexy marine sergeant Trevor West. It’s much shorter than the rest but for some reason, I feel more connected with both characters. This is easily my second favorite amongst the five titles I’ve read from Kindle Alexander. I’ve read this one non-stop and I can’t seem to let go of it until I turn its last page. ![]() ![]() ![]() In 2008, Harper Children's published Terry's standalone non-Discworld YA novel, Nation. ![]() The first of these, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, won the Carnegie Medal.Ī non-Discworld book, Good Omens, his 1990 collaboration with Neil Gaiman, has been a longtime bestseller and was reissued in hardcover by William Morrow in early 2006 (it is also available as a mass market paperback - Harper Torch, 2006 - and trade paperback - Harper Paperbacks, 2006). ![]() There are over 40 books in the Discworld series, of which four are written for children. And the ping-pong of Wildean bon mots – that can, in bad productions of this work, make you feel as if you are witnessing as a collection of statues elocuting into a void – is played with real force of personality by a cast of de luxe performers including Eleanor Bron and Emma Fielding. The plot of the existing segment is as Myrrhina is an Alexandrian noblewoman who travels to the mountains to tempt Honorius, a Christian hermit, away from goodness with her beauty and wealth. By playing the central story for it enduring tragic truth and muting some of the more exclamatory attitudinising, Dromgoole brings an Ibsenite bite to the proceedings. To indicate the enduring relevance of the piece (hot now because of the Harvey Weinstein scandal), the director does not need to resort to any updating (Jonathan Fensom’s lovely country house designs root the show in its period). The great thing about Dromgoole’s revival of this earlier play is that, if the balance still seems a bit awkward, the production makes a signal success of both aspects. The received wisdom is that Wilde didn’t get the balance right between epigrammatic comedy and melodrama until he realised that the only thing to do with the latter was to mock it – which he achieved in his masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest. ![]() Seven quotes from Oscar Wilde to put life into perspective. ![]() ![]() ![]() All 3 volumes in the acclaimed trilogy about the Civil War, the third of which won both the Pulitzer prize & National Book Awards. I know it has been fashionable for many of the newer voices in the field to garner attention. He tries to be impartial, but perhaps surprisingly I sense an admiration for the colorful soldiers of the South slipping into the texture of his prose. And though he is a Yankee, he strives very hard to be impartial. His insight makes you believe he was there, that he lived through it, coming from his years of listening to the veterans in his hometown.
